Application and Removal: Mask any areas not being stripped with plastic and masking tape. For best results apply at temperatures between 60°F and 80°F. 1) For
multiple layers or stubborn coatings, apply ULTRA-STRIP liberally to the surface with a brush, 1/2in nap paint roller, or putty knife so that the remover completely covers the color of the surface to be stripped (30 mils thick). Do not brush out too thin
like a coat of paint. It covers approximately 50-75 square feet per gallon. Check applied area at 2-4 hours, then periodically thereafter. As a rule of thumb, the greater the layers of paint, the longer the product should be left on. The
stripper will usually remove 8-12 layers of paint in 24 hours. More layers of paint (20+) may take longer (2-3+ days). For stripping 1 to 4 layers quickly, apply stripper thinner (15 mils thick). Let the product dwell from 1/2 to 4 hours. Use
a stiff putty knife to lift paint from flat surfaces or a stiff bristle brush for detailed areas. After initial lifting, use a nylon brush or stripping pad with AFTER-STRIP Paint Remover Wash or light amounts of water to remove any
residue. Final clean-up should be done with water. No need to neutralize (acid wash) surface. Surface should be completely dry before repainting. Clean tool promptly after use with soap and water. In some situations where there are newer
latex paints on top of oil paints, the top coats may soften easily causing the surface to pull away (usually in 2-6 hours). If this occurs, scrape off paint and reapply immediately, if necessary to penetrate bottom layers. A thinner coat is all that is
needed to remove the latex. Follow with a thicker coat. |
TEST PATCH: Since it is often hard to know the type or the amount of paint or varnish on a surface, a small area should be tested first to determine whether the desired
results will be achieved, and if so it will determine time of removal. |
HINTS: Let the stripper do the work for you. Give it the proper time to penetrate the paint layers or you defeat its purpose. Misting the area to be removed
with water prior to removal may make lifting of the paint or varnish easier. If desired results are not achieved at first, leave stripper on longer if still wet, or apply a thicker coat. If still tacky and moist, reapply stripper over itself. If
completely dry, scrape off and reapply. Product activity is reduced below a temperature of 60°F and may require additional dwell time before all layers of paint are removed. |
