DEFY Masonry Crack & Joint brick mortar repair tuckpointing elastomeric is a brushable sealant used to repair exterior mortar joint cracks on brick walls and between concrete or stone masonry units. The product seals cracks and other defects that cannot be corrected with water repellents alone.  As with any building product continuously exposed to the elements, masonry is subject to weathering. Acids in the rain, seismic movement, building settlement, freezing and thawing cycles, impact damage and dirt take their toll. When visual inspection reveals that the mortar joints are cracking or otherwise deteriorated, action is necessary to help maintain the integrity of the wall system. This economical repair kit costs just pennies per brick.

This container will treat approximately 550 standard size bricks, or approximately 100 sq ft of wall surface.  However, actual coverage rates may vary depending on application.

DESCRIPTION: DEFY Masonry Crack & Joint sealant seals cracks up to 1/8 inch wide on brick faces and at mortar and brick joint interfaces to provide waterproof protection, and dries to a clear, translucent, milky film. DEFY Masonry Crack & Joint sealant prevents water infiltration and subsequent damage, yet allows water vapor to escape. When applied properly DEFY Masonry Crack & Joint sealant can solve tough leak problems without the expense of tuckpointing or surface grouting.

SURFACES: DEFY Masonry Crack & Joint sealant can be used as a remedial control agent to protect above ground masonry wall mortar joints that have failed due to: (1) poor joint design; (2) inadequate bonding between mortar and masonry units; (3) structural damage. DEFY Masonry Crack & Joint sealant will not significantly change the original appearance of most walls or masonry surfaces. A slight gloss will occur on dense surfaces.

Step 1:
Before using DEFY Masonry Crack & Joint sealant you should treat your brick or masonry surface with DEFY All-Purpose Heavy-Duty MasonrySaver with Saltshield.  This provides water repellent protection to the substrate.  Always apply MasonrySaver from the bottom up with a six inch rundown.

Step 2:
Identify the joints where mortar erosion has occurred.  Joints to be sealed should remain damp, not wet,  from the MasonrySaver application.  This helps to ensure a good bond.  The masonry units must absorb all the surface water from any area sprayed with a garden hose.

Note:  Do not apply MasonrySaver to previously treated substrates.  Instead test water repellency by spraying the area with a garden hose.  If substrate remains dry your current repellent is working otherwise you will need to use DEFY solvent RTV.

Step 3:
Read the product label for DEFY Masonry Crack & Joint sealant thoroughly then open the container.  Apply product to applicator brush.  You will notice the consistency of "sour cream" and the product will be milky white in appearance.

Step 5:
Wipe any material from brick facing with a clean brush or 100% knit wiping cloth.  Remove only the material from the brick facing that is not filling an eroded joint.

Step 6:
After 24 hours our sample application has dried clear to milky white (depending on the size of the crack).  A slight gloss may be noticeable on dense surfaces.  DEFY Masonry Crack & Joint sealant costs just pennies per brick and can seal cracks up to 1/8 inch wide on brick faces and mortar & brick interfaces to provide waterproof protection.  It's easy and painless.
