Application: SARA products are engineered for spray application (airless spray recommended).
 

1. Atomization of SARA products during spraying is neither required nor desired.

2. When removing Original Equipment finishes (2 to 3.5 mils or 50 to 100 microns) apply approximately 8 to 10 mils of stripper (200 to 250 microns).

3. When removing multiple layers, increase the thickness of stripper applied by approximately 2 mills (50 microns) per paint layer.

4. For heavy application (over 20 mils, 250 microns) a mist coat should be applied first an allowed to sit for about one hour. Followed buy a heavier build coat. A good rule of thumb for heavy applications is to apply the stripper thick enough so that you are loosing sight of the color of the coating to be removed. This will be around 30 mils, or 760 microns.

5. Do not apply SARA stripper’s heavier than 50 mils or 1270 microns. This will prevent the stripper from avalanching.

6. Multiple spray passes should be applied to achieve a thickness of 40-50 mils. Appling too heavy in one pass may result in avalanching of the stripper.

Using to small of a tip or too much pressure will result in shearing of the emulsion. This will show up as clear water droplets on the surface.
Use only the pressure required to form the spray fan.
SARA products should be sprayed as gently as possible.
 

Largest pump ever used: Air driven 75:1 airless with 0.025 tip @ 23 psi air drive pressure.

Surface preparation: Prior to application, mask all paint surfaces not being stripped. SARA strippers will migrate under most masking tape and may damage the coating your trying to protect. To remedy this: Cover the object with poly and mask normally, then lay a second layer of tape over the first. If no more SARA will be applied in, following 3-4 hours remove the second or top layer of tape that has over spray on it.

Coverage: in practical field situations, the coverage ranges from 40 to 90 square feet per US gallon. (1 to 2.2 sq. m. per Litre). This variation is a result of differences in coating thickness and types of paint. Most typical situations require 75 square feet per gallon. (1.5 sq. m/L)
 

1. Types of paints.
2. Number of layers to the substrate.
3. Substrate temperature.
4. Ambient temperature.

Most paint systems will lift between 1 and 6 hours.
When removing multiple finishes there may be poor adhesion between repaints. In these cases the product may lift layers prior to reaching the substrate. When this happens remove the lifted layers and reapply. Try to avoid using water for removal of repaint layers. Applying water will result in down time, waiting for the surface to dry prior to reapplication of SARA products.

Removal: Removal of the lifted paints from the surface can be done by squeegee, scraping, pressure washing or vacuum. Manual removal should be used to remove the bulk of the coatings before pressure washing to minimize mess and the risk of stripper and coating fallout damaging coatings on other equipment or surfaces.

Disposal: Collect and dispose of the solid paint residue according to local regulations. The paint stripper along with rinse water Itself is fully biodegradable. DO NOT collect and/or store removed paint and stripper waste residue in metal containers.
 

1. Substrates that have been repainted many times for years with a variety of different coatings. When removing multiple paint applications/systems there will be poor adhesion between repaints, in these cases the remover may lift in layers. When this happens, the lifted or softened paints are to be removed and apply another coat of SARA. Allow the product time to work.

2. Often when removing thick / multiple coatings that are found on historical type buildings the first thick application will be absorbed into the coating. If the product is absorbed or starts to dry on the surface before penetration is complete reapply another layer of SARA. The SARA products are working properly when being absorbed.
    

1. When possible plan for thick applications to be left on overnight.

2. Follow the sun, use the sun and shade, so the applied product Is in the shade (when desirable) as long as possible.

3. Different types of coatings react in different ways (Coating Removal and clean up); always do a test area prior to full application. This will answer many of your questions, i.e. thickness of coating, time required and best method of removal.

4. Optimum air temperature is between 50° F. and 85° F. Substrate temp Is also very important to the overall job.

5. Applying a light, first coat followed by a heavier second coat about an hour later will ensure the product does not slide off and will enhance performance.

6. If removal of coatings is required to facilitate reapplication of more stripper in the case of topcoats lifting, avoid the use of water for removal. Using water will require drying time below more stripper can be applied. It the lifted layers are removed via scrapping or squeegee, immediate reapplication of SARA products is possible.

7. Do not store or collect the stripper in metal container. This will deplete the product’s active ingredients. In addition DO NOT store or collect removed paint and stripper residue in metal containers. Wash all application equipment with water and run water through the pump, spray gun and hose-lines to clean them.

8. DO NOT “thin” SARA products.
 

Temperature: For optimum performance, temperatures of 65F/18C or warmer are recommended. Dwell time will increase as the temperature decreases. SARA coating removers have been used successfully as low as freezing point.

Clean up: Once the paint residue has been removed, wash the surface thoroughly with water (warm water if available).

Storage: Do not store the product in direct sunlight. Protect the product from freezing.

Shelf life: Separation can occur after 10 months to one year, or if the product has been frozen. If separation has occurred the product will appear to have lost some viscosity or will have clear areas of liquid on the surface and look non homogeneous. Use a paint mixer (not a paint shaker) to re-blend the product. This will take around 15 minutes for a 5 gallon / 20 litre paint. For drum size containers use the sprayer pump to re-circulate the contents for about one-hour.
